First Audition Requirements
Scales
Students must accurately sing the three types of scales:
- MAJOR (beginning and ending on Do)
- MINOR (beginning and ending on La)
- CHROMATIC (Beginning and ending on Do, including all half steps)
Prepared Solo
Oh Shenandoah (provided below)
Sight-Singing
Students must, to the best of their abilities, perform three examples, each 8 measures long. They will have 30 seconds to prepare each example.
- Major (beginning and ending on Do)
- Minor (beginning and ending on La)
- Major with skips (beginning and ending on Do)
STARTING PITCH for SCALES
Suggested starting pitches:
- Soprano – Middle C
- Alto – Middle C
- Tenor – A below middle C
- Bass – C below middle C.
